Conflict Correspondences is a gradual project that reflects the diversity, recurrence, and persistence of conflict in many areas of the world. Conflict considered in its broadest sense, not only as war: authoritarian governments, economic collapse, civil disagreement, ideological extremism, lack of individual rights, corruption, violence.
Artists, coming from different states, tell us about the conflict from first-hand experience. Through written correspondence with the curator and a video – already done or new – that is representative
of the critical period in their country. The project is based on dialogue, in a no-predetermined way; it takes shape by the modulation of words and waiting, questions and answers that characterize every mutual knowledge – knowledge that, here, takes place through distance, considering the universality of human nature as a necessary precondition. The exhibition at LOCALEDUE, Bologna, is the first occasion, which will be followed by a digital catalog, a website and, then, other shows.

Conflict Correspondences è un progetto esteso nel tempo che dà traccia della varietà, ricorrenza e persistenza del conflitto in molte aree del mondo. Il conflitto inteso in senso lato, non soltanto come guerra: autoritarismo delle forme politiche, dissesto economico, dissidio civile, estremismo ideologico, mancanza di diritti, corruzione, violenza.
Sono gli artisti, provenienti da varie nazioni, a farne un racconto in prima persona. Attraverso una corrispondenza scritta con il curatore e, in modo conseguente e centrale, con un’opera video, già edita o
inedita, rappresentativa del presente critico del proprio paese.
Il progetto si basa sul dialogo, non predeterminato; prende forma seguendo la modulazione di parole e attese, domande e risposte necessarie in ogni rapporto di reciproca conoscenza – conoscenza che qui avviene sempre alla distanza geografica ma che tiene a presupposto, necessario, l’universalità della natura umana.
La mostra a LOCALEDUE di Bologna è la prima occasione espositiva, a cui seguiranno una pubblicazione digitale e l’avvio di un sito web per la continuazione del progetto.

Iván Candeo (1983, Caracas, Venezuela) is an artist and teacher specialising in visual arts. He studied Theory and History of Visual Arts, Contemporary History of Venezuela. His work looks into the debate on relationship between art and visual culture; he uses the media as instruments, by focusing on the different aspects of movement, like velocity, acceleration, accidents. Movement is related to time and history, in order to identify the contradiction and
paradoxes. He has exhibited in group shows including: ¡Patria o Libertad! The Rhetorics of Patriotism (Miami Dade College - Museum of Art and Design, Miami, 2010); Unresolved Circumstances: Video Art from Latin America (MOLAA-Museum of Latin American Art, California, 2010); 8ª Bienal do Mercosul:
ensaios de geopoética (Brasil, 2011); Ibi Et Nunc: sobre paradojas democráticas LOOP (Barcelona, 2016).

Eva Giannakopoulou (1977, Athens, Greece) grew up in Ithaca and has lived in Naples, Barcelona and Istanbul, she is currently residing in-between Berlin and Athens where she works. Eva has performed and exhibited in museums, institutions, galleries, festivals, impromptu stages and other public or unconventional sites in Greece, Mexico, Germany, France, Turkey and Serbia including: Material Art Fair (Mexico City, 2017), Benaki Museum (Athens,
The Equilibrists show, 2016), Biennale (Athens, Omonoia, 2015-2017), Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (Berlin, solo show, 2015), MPA-B (Berlin, 2015 e 2014), Excentricités 3 and 6 Performance Festival, (Besançon, 2015 and 2012). She has co-curated and co-organised art projects and performative events,while in 2013-2014, she was a co-labourer of the MPA-B (Month of Performance Art, Berlin). She is part of TWIXTlab, a space operating in-between, art, anthropology and the everyday.

Lucia Nhamo is a Zimbabwean conceptual artist who completed her MFA in Visual Art at Carnegie Mellon University, U.S.A. She draws on her own evolving experience of citizenship as one of the primary influences in her work. Through video, printmaking, performance and sculpture, her work explores the idea of the ‘counter-monument’ as a material, and conceptual strategy of subversion. The counter-monument becomes a way to anchor herself in the places and issues that are of importance to her; it also prevents her from becoming completely disillusioned by what appears insurmountable. She has exhibited widely in Brazil, Germany, Mali, U.S.A, Tunisia, Cuba, Senegal and South Korea. in 2015 Nhamo was awarded the Prix Spécial at the 10th Edition of Rencontres de Bamako in 2015.
